Texas Ranks #3 For BBQ? Think Again, TripAdvisor

Posted: Updated:
(KCEN) - Here's a juicy story: Texas is named No. 3 for the best barbecue in the country.

You read right, the state full of beef-loving carnivores comes in behind two others for quality BBQ.

If you haven't heard, Texas BBQ is how BBQ is done.

"When you think of Texas you think of BBQ," said Gary Smith after finishing up a meal at Rudy's in Waco.

But, apparently, no one bothered to tell TripAdvisor.

"Texas is the best," said a customer at Vitek's, "not Georgia. Sure not North Carolina."

That's right: The travel site ranks North Carolina at No. 2. And at the top spot for best BBQ? The Peach State.

"Wh-- Georgia? Really? Okay," said an incredulous Ryan Summers, general manager of Vitek's.

Yeah. Georgia. I call shenanigans.

"Texas is the only place that I have had good BBQ," Vitek's customer Kristin Isaacs said.

Alright, Georgia. You've got your pulled pork. But let's get real for a second here. We've got our turkey, our sausage, and, let's be honest, you can't even talk about BBQ without talking about the brisket.

I mean, come on. You don't even need sauce for this stuff.

"It's about the whole smoking it and getting that flavor from the wood, smoking it into the meat," Rudy's manager Shayne Major said.

And, seriously? You can hear how juicy it is just cutting into it.

"If you want brisket, if you want smoked brisket," Summers said, "you come to Texas."

And who doesn't want smoked brisket?

"That's where the cattle come from, all the beef," said a customer at Vitek's.

I'll cut you a little bit of a break, TripAdvisor. The survey is all based on customer ratings on your site.

Texans don't need to be told their BBQ is great.

"We just know we're good enough here," Major said. "We don't have to go online and vote for it."

And to be fair, the best barbecue joint in the country is Franklin's in Austin, according to the survey. But the rest of Texas' BBQ spots? Nowhere to be found.

Let's close the lid on all this, once and for all. I'm calling you out, Georgia. Your best against our best.

Bring it on.
