Fallen Officer's Family Speaks Out

Posted: Updated:
(KCEN) -- Family members of Detective Charles Dinwiddie, the police officer killed in the line of duty last week, are speaking out about his life.

Dinwiddie was the glue that kept his family together.

He was the youngest of six, but his siblings say he was the leader and champion of the family.

Dinwiddie was an 18 year veteran of the Killeen Police Department when he was shot and killed while executing a search warrant at a residence on Friday.

He passed away Sunday afternoon.

Dinwiddie's older sister Ellen spoke to media today about her brother and how the family is coping.

She says he'll always be remembered as a man who loved god, his wife, his children and his job."He didn't just go out and do his job, he always went beyond that and he never would let the case just be the case. He would always see the people beyond the case and his goal was to do the best he could everyday," Ellen Dinwiddie-Smith said.

The viewing and funeral for Detective Dinwiddie are scheduled for this weekend.
