East Texas Man Convicted in Assaults of Game Wardens

Posted: Updated:
(KCEN) -- A man arrested in the Oct. 2013 incident involving two game wardens has been convicted of four felonies.

44-year-old Teddy Davenport was found guilty by a Limestone County jury on Friday of charges that include two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (a first-degree felony), burglary of a building (a third-degree felony) and a felony of evading arrest (a third-degree felony).

The convictions come after Davenport injured two game wardens when they attempted to stop him during a routine patrol in McLennan County for driving without headlights on the morning of Oct. 5th, 2013.

Davenport first rammed his pickup into the vehicle driven by the wardens while fleeing the scene. The wardens were still able to give pursuit but a bright light was shined from Davenport's fleeing truck, which caused the game wardens to go off the road and crash into a culvert.

Both wardens were injured. One required hospitalization.

Davenport was taken into custody two days later after being arrested in a wooded area outside of Teague in Freestone County. He was booked in the Limestone county jail because that's where the assaults initially occurred.

Davenport's punishment has been assessed by the jury with a 50-year prison term for each aggravated assault. He also faces 10-years for each of the third-degree felony counts.
