Funeral Services Held for Pearlie Golden

Posted: Updated:
(KAGS) -- Funeral services were held today at Old Elam Baptist Church in Hearne, TX, for Pearlie Golden.

The 93-year-old woman was shot and killed by City of Hearne police officer, Stephen Stem less than two weeks ago.

Friends and family members gathered today to remember a woman they described as gentle and full of life.

They shared their joyful memories of Pearlie -- as well as their happiness.

"I have several stories. Growing up in life and in the community," said Cedric Chappel, who grew up in Goldie's neighborhood. "It was like four of us and we were always playing in that area and she had lots of chickens, so we were always down at her house antagonizing her chickens. She was the mother of the community."

"She was well loved and well respected in this community," said family attorney Vic Bonner, J.D.

There aren't any further tributes scheduled for Pearlie but family members say their fight against the City of Hearne isn't over.
