(KCEN) -- UPDATE May 18, 3:20 p.m.

Officials have a identified the victim in Saturday night's drowning as 17-year-old Kentrell Chandler of Temple, TX.

The teen was listed on the Temple High School Junior Varsity football roster as a defensive lineman.

Chandler's body is being taken to the Southwest Institute for Forensic Science in Dallas for an autopsy.



(KCEN) -- UPDATE May, 17, 9:19 p.m.

Bell County officials confirmed the body of a 16-year-old boy who had gone missing on Lake Belton earlier this evening has been found.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The teen had gone missing while swimming near Rogers Park with a group of friends around 6:30 p.m. Saturday evening.

The boy had tried to swim across the channel but began to struggle. He then went under water and didn't resurface.

The Morgan's Point Dive Team along with the Bell County Sheriff's Dept. and Texas State Game Wardens located the body around 8:30 p.m.

The boy is from Temple but has not been identified until his parents are notified.



(KCEN) -- The Bell County Sheriff's Dept. are searching for a missing 16-year-old boy on Lake Belton. Diving and boat crews are being used for the search.

The boy went missing around the Rogers Park area at 6:30 p.m.
