"Legend," Dog Who's Lived in Waco Park for Years, Up for Adoption

Posted: Updated:
(KCEN) - A Waco legend is looking for a home.

A dog, who has been living in and around Cameron Park for at least five years, is a common site for those who frequent the area.

He started off in a pack of about seven dogs, and as they've gotten caught, he's managed to evade city employees.

Last week Ron Ostrom with the city parks department finally caught up with him.

He's now at the Humane Society of Central Texas, looking for a home.

"You don't have to worry about it during storms, you don't have to worry about it getting hit by a car," Ostrom said of his relief the dog was finally caught. "The idea that there's someone that might be looking for just this type of dog, and ... his quality of life will be so much better than what it was when he was having to scavenge."

"He's going to be a runner because he's not used to a home, he's not used to being inside," added Nicole Wilson, HSCT's adoption coordinator. "He's going to have to be an indoor dog with someone who knows about nervous dogs."

The dog, who the shelter named "Legend," is just starting to learn how to use a leash.

His new owner will need to be able to devote some time to training him for a crate and to be inside.

If you'd like to adopt Legend, a husky mix, you can call the HSCT at (254) 754-1454, or email Wilson at hsctadopt@gmail.com.
