'Maker's Edge' Aims to Open Shop Space for Waco Creators, Tinkerers

Posted: Updated:
(KCEN) - For all of you creators and tinkerers, a new space coming to Waco aims to let you get your hands dirty.

It's called "Maker's Edge," and it's for anyone who likes to, well, make things.

There's still plenty of work to do in the space on Austin Avenue -- right now it's just an empty, concrete building. But the owners want to turn it into an all-purpose shop.

Tools for working with wood, metal, leather, jewelry, electronics -- whatever you can dream up.

You pay a membership fee of about $80, and you can use whatever you want, whenever you want.

The space's owners say it's not about hiring someone to make your product.

"What we want to do is inspire you to come to our space, teach you how to use, maybe, the CAD programming, show you how to use the equipment, and then set you free to make whatever it is you want to build," said Melissa Pardun, the shop's designer.

Right now they're looking to raise money for a 3-D printer. That's the goal of a Kickstarter project.

They're also looking for advertisers and sponsors to help keep the equipment up-to-date and working right.

They hope to open the space August 1.

(NBC SPORTS) -- Time will tell if the Browns’ selection of quarterback Johnny Manziel works out, but this much appears true: from a merchandising standpoint, the move has been a home run thus far. According to the NFL, Manziel’s Cleveland jersey has outsold all other jerseys from April 1 through July 17 at the league’s online store, NFLShop.com. The sales of Manziel’s jersey are all the more impressive when you consider he wasn’t drafted until May 8. From there, it appears, sales have taken o...More >>
