(KCEN) -- Tuesday marks 16 years since a deadly tornado that ripped through Jarrell.

On May 27, 1997, 27 people were killed and 12 were injured by an F5 tornado that stretched three quarters of a mile wide and made at least a 7 mile path of demolition.

The tornado destroyed more than 40 homes and even removed some homes from their foundations.

The Jarrell tornado is listed as one of the most deadly tornado's in Texas history.
