Couple Starts Downtown Waco Ghost Walk

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- Mike and Cindy Jacobus knows a lot about Waco and even more about hidden secrets downtown. "Stories, legends, tales," Mike said. "This is two and a half to three years in the making, us interviewing people." He doesn't label a place as haunted very easily, but he's confident in a few. "Dr. Pepper Museum, Waco Civic Theatre…Jasper's Barbeque."

They say the place with the most paranormal activity is the iconic Hippodrome. Legends like Elvis Presley have performed behind the doors, but the building also survived a fire and a massive tornado, which adds to the mystery inside the theater. Employees like Programming Director Melissa Green acknowledge the scary stories that have been passed down. "I've heard that there has been someone that passed away in there and their spirit is still there," Green said.

Chris McGowan of Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce is in full support of the new attraction. "Mike and his crew have done an incredible job researching the history of downtown Waco," McGowan said. A huge part of that history is the 1953 tornado that swept through downtown, killing over 100 people. Mike says it's just one reason why he believes downtown is haunted. "I'm beginning to say...there is something else out there," he said.

Ghost walks will happen on the first Saturday of each month through October. For details on how you can sign up, visit the McLennan County Paranormal Investigations website.
