'Meals on the Bus' Takes Summer Lunches to Waco ISD Kids

Posted: Updated:
(KCEN) -- Hungry kids in Waco are getting meals delivered on a school bus this summer.

It's an extension of Waco ISD's free- and reduced-lunch program during the school year. But during the summer, many families don't take advantage of the program.

So now WISD and the Texas Hunger Initiative at Baylor are bringing meals to ten different sites around the city.

Kids 1-18 years old can stop by and eat a free meal on the air-conditioned buses.

"Unfortunately, if we don't have any participation at some of the sites we're going to have to drop them, and we would hate to have to do that," said Jill Sanders, food service manager at Waco ISD.

The money for the project comes from two different grants.
