Former Police Officer Arrested After Two Bodies Found Stuffed Inside Suitcases

Posted: Updated:

(NBC) -- A former police officer was arrested in connection with the discovery of two women's bodies stuffed in suitcases and dumped on the side of a road in Geneva, Wisconsin.

One of the victims has been identified as a woman from Minnesota.

Investigators carried-out evidence in dozens of brown bags from Steven Zelich's apartment.

Then came the bigger, more eerie items like Zelich's refrigerator.

Neighbors say they knew very little about the 52-year-old man who lives in their building.

"Very quiet. He leaves in the morning and I don't think he drives a car because he leaves from the front door," said neighbor Felicia Sopa.

"Never would say hi or anything like that. Would just come in to his apartment and come out," said another neighbor, Kelly Lopez.

Some remember seeing a small, blonde woman with him.

They say she looked like Laura Simonson who police have identified as one of the victims found stuffed in a suitcase and dumped along the side of a road in the town of Geneva.

Simonson was reported missing by her mother last November in Farmington, Minnesota.

For people who live here, that's now more of a scare than the initial fear they felt when police showed up at their building with guns drawn.

"I woke up at 9:45 to sheriffs banging on the door and I thought it was the door that I was at. It was so close and it echoed. I was just saying I'm opening the door. Don't kick in the door. I'm pregnant, please," said Lopez.

The second victim has not yet been identified.

(KCEN) – They told him to wish big… and boy did he. On Monday, just one day after his eighth birthday, Antonio Laguna finally got his Make a Wish. “Lots of waiting,” he laughed just moments before getting to see his greenhouse and orchard. “I’m so excited. It’s going to be fun.” And it was. With the plants in place, his tools waiting, and the red ribbon up, Antonio walked outside to see his dream picking farm. “It’s so amazing,” he giggled standing in his greenhouse. “I can’t believe so many ...More >>
