Hundreds stood in the Pour Rain To Say Goodbye To Their Chief

Posted: Updated:
(KCEN) –Hundreds of people lined Main Street in Little River Academy to say their goodbyes to Chief Lee Dixon during Thursday’s procession.

As the rain poured down, people who didn’t even have umbrellas silently watched with their hands over their hearts to show their support.  “I think it’s a statement to have all these people here honoring Lee,” Milli Mendoza said as the procession passed by. “All this support from neighboring towns shows Academy is not alone and will never be alone.”

Mendoza watched as officers, troopers, deputies and other law enforcement agencies stretched for two miles, making their way to the Bell County Expo Center for a second ceremony. There were even officers as far as Chicago who came to show their support.

“Texas is huge, and it came together today in this little town of Little River Academy to show support,” Mendoza said.

At the Expo Center, hundreds of officers surrounded Dixon’s family as they did the 21 gun salute, and heartbreaking final call, followed by silence.

“We just have to be strong and go on. We’ll carry on where he left off,” Greg Eakens, a former coworker of Dixon’s said.

The incredible show of support was evident on Thursday as a town said goodbye to a Chief they loved and admired.
