Ohio Man Raises $2,300 on Kickstarter to Make Potato Salad

Posted: Updated:
(KCEN) – It’s a $3,000 side dish.

"Basically I'm just making potato salad. I haven't decided what kind yet." That's how a page on crowd-funding site Kickstarter starts off.

The site, created on July 3 by Columbus, Ohio, resident Zack Danger Brown (no word on whether or not that's his real middle name), had an original goal of $10.

Two days later, the fundraiser had pushed past that goal -- by more than $2,300. At the time of writing Saturday evening, 415 backers had pledged $2,372. To make some potato salad.

As is standard with Kickstarter, different pledge levels receive different gifts once the goal is met. At first, the gifts included things like a "thank you" online, a picture of Brown making the potato salad, and the great honor of Brown saying your name while making the dish.

Now he's offering other rewards, as the number of donors keeps ticking up. A $25 donation now gets you a hat proclaiming your love for potato salad, and $50 gets you a potato salad recipe book. How can you lose?

After hitting $1,500, Brown wrote on the page, "We're really tearing through these stretch goals. I honestly don't know what is realistic anymore." Neither do I, Zack. Neither do I.

The new goal is $3,000. If he hits the mark, Brown promises he "will rent out a party hall and invite the whole internet to the potato salad party."

"The internet loves potato salad!” he writes. “Let's show them that potato salad loves the internet!!"
