Darrin teaches this cool lead guitar lesson that ascends across the first five positions of the major scale which are Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian and Mixolydian in the key of A as follows; starting at the first position, Ionian, on the 5th fret of the 6th string with first finger to the 7th fret with 2nd finger to the 9th fret with 4th finger and then repeat the sequence on the 5th string. Next is the 2nd position, Dorian, starting on the 7th fret of the 5th string with first finger to the 9th fret with 2nd finger to the 11th fret with 4th finger and then repeat that sequence on the 4th string. Next is the 3rd position, Phrygian, starting on the 9th fret of the 4th string with first finger to the 11th fret with 3rd finger to the 12th fret with 4th finger to the 9th fret of the 3rd string with first finger to the 11th fret with 2nd finger to the 13th fret with 4th finger. Next is the 4th position, Lydian, starting on the 11th fret of the 3rd string with first finger to the 13th fret with 3rd finger to the 14th fret with 4th finger to the 12th fret of the 2nd string with first finger to the 13th fret with 3rd finger to the 14th fret with 4th finger. Finally the 5th position, Mixolydian,starting on the 14th fret of the 2nd string with first finger to the 15th fret with 2nd finger to the 17th fret with 4th finger to the 14th fret of the first string with first finger to the 16th fret with 3rd finger and 17th fret with 4th finger. Darrin Goodman
Darrin Goodman, a native of Ogden Utah, began playing guitar at the age of 12 after hearing KISS at an earlier age. Darrin has been a local finalist for the King of the Blues contest and is the lead guitarist of international recording artist Sonic Prophecy who has performed with artists such as Accept, Sabaton Cinderella and Ratt.
