To Open Festival with Performances July 27-30

Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) July 15, 2014

Pennsylvania Ballet debuts at the Vail International Dance Festival in Colorado this month, opening the celebration of dance with performances July 27-30.

The Vail International Dance Festival is nationally renowned as an innovative showcase of our art form, Artistic Director Roy Kaiser says. I am incredibly proud to present the Company on its stages and can think of no better way to close our landmark 50th Anniversary Season.

Right now, Pennsylvania Ballet is rehearsing for three unique performances in Vail. On Sunday, July 27, the Company appears in an Opening Night Performance at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater featuring stars from throughout the festival. Pennsylvania Ballet will perform pas de deux from George Balanchines Emeralds from Jewels and Christopher Wheeldons Polyphonia (danced by Pennsylvania Ballet Principal Dancer Jermel Johnson and New York City Ballet Soloist Lauren Lovette) plus two commissions that premiered on the Pennsylvania Ballet stage this spring: Matthew Neenans La Chasse and newly-promoted Soloist Alexander Peters solo from Trey McIntyres The Accidental. The evening closes with Pennsylvania Ballet in Balanchines Rubies from Jewels with special guests Festival Artist-in-Residence Herman Cornejo of American Ballet Theatre and New York City Ballet Principal Dancer Tiler Peck making their debuts in the principal roles.

On Monday, July 28, the Company presents an all-Balanchine evening with his timeless Serenade and the Vail premiere of Stravinsky Violin Concerto, featuring a pas de deux by Principal Dancer Amy Aldridge and New York City Ballet Principal Dancer Robert Fairchild. On Wednesday, July 30, the Company performs in a unique benefit called UpClose, a rehearsal-style program hosted by Festival Director Damian Woetzel and featuring selections from Balanchines Jewels.
