First IMAX Theatre In Central Texas Now Open

Posted: Updated:
(KCEN) -- A new movie option just opened in Central Texas and it's unlike anything else in the area. Premiere Cinemas at Temple Mall now has an IMAX theatre, something you could only find in Dallas or Austin before Wednesday.

After months of construction, the theatre is finally in full swing. The screen alone is impressive at 70 feet wide and 40 feet tall. A regular movie screen only needs one projector, but the IMAX screen is so massive, it uses two. Each projector delivers over 6,000 watts of light, creating a crystal-clear image that audiences rave about.

Temple Premiere Cinemas director Cindy Palmer says the curved screen gives over 300 people a great view at the same time. "Anywhere you sit in that auditorium, you're gonna get the same effect as you would if you sat right in the center," Palmer said.

The theatre is running a 45-minute IMAX movie called "Space Station 3D" for free throughout the day on Wednesday. The last showing is at 10:15 p.m.
