DENVER - The man who fell at Sports Authority Field at Mile High after Monday night's Broncos game has died.
The Denver Medical Examiner's Office confirmed 36-year-old Jason Coy died of blunt force injuries.
Denver Police are looking into what happened and said the initial investigation shows Coy was sitting on a stairwell railing and fell approximately 60 feet.
He was taken to Denver Health by ambulance from the stadium and was pronounced dead.
It’s not known if drugs or alcohol played a role in the fall. Lab tests from the autopsy that will determine those results take six to eight weeks to complete.
Stadium Management Company, which operates Sports Authority Field at Mile High, released a statement before the man's death was announced:
“A fan was taken to the hospital after falling over a stairwell railing at Sports Authority Field at Mile High shortly after Monday night’s game. Our thoughts are with the injured fan, and we are in the process of learning more about this incident from the Denver Police Department’s investigation.”
The Denver Broncos released a statement of their own on Tuesday afternoon:
“The Denver Broncos are extremely saddened to learn that Jason Coy, the fan who fell over a stairwell railing at Monday night’s game, has passed away. Along with Stadium Management Company, we extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to his family and friends.
Providing a safe, enjoyable environment for guests at Sports Authority Field at Mile High is the top priority for the Broncos and SMC. We’re reviewing this tragic incident and will continue to maintain all necessary safety measures for our fans.”
