Local students plan walk-out, March for Our Lives event

"It is worth getting into trouble so that we can be in a safe environment to get our education."

March for Our Lives Waco announced plans to hold an event Saturday, March 24 at Heritage Square in downtown Waco.

Students, teachers, parents, religious leaders, and citizens plan to join the national March for Our Lives event at 3 p.m. According to the group’s spokespersons, the rally will include a visual display, local vocalist Joslyn Henderson, and speakers. The walk-out is to honor the 17 people killed at the Marjory Stonemason Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

A 17-minute student walk-out is also planned for Wednesday, March 14, at Midway High School.

“It is worth getting into trouble so that we can be in a safe environment to get our education,” Pollard said," Midway High Sophomore Casie Pollard who is one of the event organizers said.

March for Our Lives is asking for the following actions to be taken:

  • Ban assault and semi-automatic weapons
  • Close loopholes on the purchase of assault and semi-automatic weapons
  • Ban bump stocks
  • That businesses quit selling assault and semi-automatic weapons
  • That you value our lives more than your right to buy military-grade weapons.
