CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Corpus Christi's Fiesta de la Flor is no more, but the celebration of Tejano superstar Selena Quintanilla continues.
Q-Productions and the City of San Antonio announced Tuesday the next big event honoring the legacy of the Tejano Queen -- the Selena XXV tribute concert. It will be held Saturday, May 9, in San Antonio.
"A tribute concert will have great meaning to the millions of Selena fans all over the world and we welcome all to join us here in San Antonio Texas on May 9th as we pay tribute to most celebrated Mexican American entertainer Of our lifetime and that is Selena," San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg said.
"Why San Antonio I've been asked, I think that there are so many reasons why SA felt it was the right place to hold an event of this magnitude. I'm honored for having it here at the Alamodome I know that Selena a year I believe before she passed away she won some awards at the Tejano music awards here we were so gracious available to have it to be able to film Avery important part for the Selena movie, said Suzette Quintanilla Arriaga, CEO of Q-Production.
Performers scheduled to appear at the concert include: headliner Pitbull, A.B. Quintanilla III Y Los Kumbia Allstarz, Becky G, Los Tucanes de Tijuana, Elida Y Avante, Ruben Ramos, Pete Astudillo, Ricardo Castillon, Gilbert Velasquez, Ally Brooke, Isabel Marie and dance group The Lab.
"It's always something that connects to Selena's dream. And her dream was fashion, her dream was music, Her dream was as she said in her own words to create something that would last forever. And here we are 25 years later she was able to accomplish that," A.B. Quintanilla said.
"I love the fact that SA is gonna be embracing that same fan base and it's just gonna be incredible an incredible, incredible concert tribute to the one and only Selena," Quintanilla Arriaga said.
