HOUSTON - Big rigs carrying Blue Bell ice cream rolled into Houston on Thursday morning.

KHOU 11 viewer Jacob Perez says he spotted several of the ice cream maker's 18-wheelers on the 610 West Loop around 10 a.m.

Blue Bell confirms that the trucks are loaded with ice cream but warns that there's no firm date for having product in stores. The trucks spotted Thursday are heading to Houston-area distribution centers as the company prepares for its big return to business.

On Wednesday, H-E-B grocers announced that they expect to have Blue Bell on their shelves in mid-September with Houston stores getting the first shipment. H-E-B says the decision on which locations will get ice cream first will be completely determined by Blue Bell, however.

Meanwhile, a date for the Brenham facility to start ice cream production again has not been announced. All of the ice cream in Houston right now is likely from the company's Alabama facility, which was recently given the green light to operate again.
