State leaders working on 2045 plan to improve transportation, taking feedback

The organization is starting with an online survey before it starts to host in-person open houses.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) is working on a plan to improve transportation in Central Texas, and the state leaders want your input.

CAMPO is comprised of a group of leaders from six counties: Bastrop, Burnet, Caldwell, Hays, Travis and Williamson counties. It is currently putting together a CAMPO 2045 Plan, a long-range regional transportation plan that looks to address transportation needs over the next 25 years.

CAMPO wants the public's input on the plan. It wants to know how commuters and pedestrians get around and what it would take for them to start using public transportation if they aren't already. The organization wants to know what transportation options Central Texans want to see in the future. The survey can be found online.

"The long-range transportation plan that includes various types of transportation – roads, biking, walking and public transportation," said Doise Meyers, the community outreach manager for CAMPO.

The organization is starting with an online survey before it starts to host in-person open houses.

Some people KVUE asked have different views on what needs to change.

"I think Austin has some of the worst traffic, so it's important to be able to get around in a manageable way that's not time-consuming," said Teo Mefalopulos. "How do you get someone to bike to work, possibly somebody that could easily bike to work but instead wants to drive, or how do you get people to use a boosted board or whatever the different means is?"

"I want MoPac to be better too," said Megan Sullivan. "I want express lanes to truly be express lanes. I don't want to pay $9 and then still be stuck in traffic."
