Unused Rodeo food donated to Houston Food Bank

RCS Carnvial Group says the loss of business is tough, but the donation does present a silver lining.

HOUSTON — In case you were worried about what would happen to all that delicious food now that Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has been canceled, there’s no need.

A good deal of it is going to a great cause!

RCS Carnival Group, which is one of the main food vendors for the Rodeo, announced Friday it will be giving a donation of uneaten food to the Houston Food Bank.

The company said it will be donating bread, produce, dairy and some meats, all essential items for families unable to stock up in event of an emergency.

“We realized that there was a great opportunity to help feed thousands of families with product that we purchased for our business at the rodeo carnival which has been canceled,” RCS Carnival Group Owner Dominic Palmieri said.

Along with RCS Carnival Group, other Rodeo vendors also took a major hit and may have to wait until summer to recoup as many spring events have been canceled due to coronavirus concerns.

The loss of business is tough, but the donation does present a silver lining. The Houston Food Bank is currently making quarantine meal kits for at-need homes.

If you’re interested in helping them pack these kits, register as a volunteer at houstonfoodbank.org/volunteernow.
