A Dripping Springs teen wanted after he allegedly attacked his mother with a hammer has been arrested in Illinois, the Hays County Sheriff’s Office said.
Authorities said William Michael Bryars, 17, was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals after a short vehicle pursuit near Alton, Illinois. Bryars allegedly attacked his mother with a hammer and stabbed her with a screwdriver Tuesday morning before stealing his mother’s car. The mother's condition was not available late Friday morning.
Alton police told the Hays County Sheriff's Office that Bryars crashed the vehicle while attempting to evade officers and was taken to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
The Hays County Sheriff's Office did not know late Friday morning if Alton police will file charges against Bryars, and said "the time frame for Bryars' extradition to Texas has yet to be determined." A booking photo for Bryars is not available as of early Friday afternoon.
Alton, Illinois is located approximately 24 miles north of St. Louis, along the Illinois/Missouri border.
