Masked men break into home, tie up couple in Dalworthington Gardens, officials say

Authorities say the two intruders struck one of the homeowners over the head with a baseball bat.

Updated at 8:25 p.m. with details and quotes from a neighbor and police chief.

Two masked men broke into a Dalworthington Gardens home early Monday night and tied up a husband and wife, officials say.

The two men forced their way into a home at about 5:45 p.m. in the 3600 block of Gardenia Drive and tied up a woman inside, said the Dalworthingron Gardens Department of Public Safety. Once her husband came home, the intruders hit him over the head with a baseball bat and also tied him up, authorities said.

“This type of crime doesn’t happen here,” Dalworthington Gardens Police Chief Greg Petty said.

Authorities say the men looked for valuables inside the home before they fled.

Howard Gottlieb lives next door. He knows the couple involved and he says they are very nice.

“You wouldn’t find two nicer people,” Gottlieb said. “Friendly, soft spoken, just nice folks.”

Gottlieb arrived home shortly after it happened. He spoke with the woman after she was tied up.

“We saw her and she was terrified,” Gottlieb said. “When we saw her she had duct tape on her wrists and her ankles still.”

The couple owned the Arlington Gold and Silver exchange on Pioneer Parkway in Arlington, multiple sources tell WFAA.

The business, which buys and sells high-end jewelry and watches, was open on Wednesday. The staff inside tells WFAA the victims are expected to recover.

Investigators have not said if the nature of the business is connected to the alleged home invasion, but believe it was a targeted attack.

“I’m very confident, very confident that this was a targeted incident and the residents of Dalworthing Gardens can rest easy knowing that,” Chief Petty said.

A detailed description of the suspects wasn't released.

“If any vehicles happened to drive by around this time frame that have on board cameras, or stuff like that, call us,” Chief Petty said. “We feel confident in the road we’re going and hopefully we’ll be able to find these suspects and bring them to justice.”

Dalworthington Gardens authorities have asked anyone with information pertaining to the crime call Det. Steve Yancy at 682-330-7408.
