New details have been released after a man allegedly stabbed his stepmother to death while she was sitting on the couch at an apartment complex in South Austin Sunday night.

Police said they responded to the 2713 block of South congress Avenue at 10:39 p.m. There, police said they found the victim, identified as Magdalena Ruiz, 35, with multiple stab wounds to her chest. Officers said they began CPR efforts until paramedics could arrive on the scene. Ruiz was transported to a South Austin hospital where she died.

Homicide detectives said after an initial investigation they discovered that Ruiz and her husband Pontrey Simon were sitting on their family couch watching television with Simon's son Pontrey O'Neal Jones, 20, before the stabbing.

Jones, who later said he has been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, told police that he got a knife from the kitchen washing machine and placed it under the couch "for later use." He told police he had "developed a plan against the victim," according to the affidavit. After noticing how his stepmother was "disrespecting his father and gloating about how the Cowboys won the game," Jones said he got the knife and went behind the victim where he allegedly stabbed her multiple times in the chest.

Simon said while he attempted to intervene to stop the attack, Jones fled the apartment.

He was later found by police lying naked on the grass in the 2400 block of South Congress Avenue.

Jones is charged with murder in the first degree and his bond is set at $500,000.
