One of Texas' Top 10 Most Wanted Sex Offenders was captured in Colorado Tuesday.
Dakota Marcus Stewart, 26, was wanted for failure to register as a sex offender in Tarrant and Dallas Counties in the months since August 2017.
A joint investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety and members of the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force was able to locate Stewart, who was considered a high-risk offender. The U.S. Marshals Violent Offender Task Force apprehended Stewart in Florissant, Colorado -- roughly 100 miles south of Denver.
Stewart was convicted in 2009 for aggravated sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child by exposure for a case involving two young girls in Tarrant County, according to DPS. He was known by a handful of different aliases, according to DPS.
By early March, authorities had already arrested a total of seven Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitives and Sex Offenders in 2018. Those arrested included three gang members and two sex offenders, DPS said.
