Police looking for burglar who fled Killeen residence after homeowner shot at him

The homeowner was sleeping in their bedroom when they heard noises. The suspect entered the room and fled the home after the resident shot at him.

KILLEEN, Texas — Killeen police are searching for a burglary suspect who fled a home after the homeowner shot at him early Sunday morning.

Officers responded to a burglary of a habitation call a little after 5 a.m. in the 2200 block of Wheeler Ave.

When they arrived, officers were told the homeowner was sleeping in the bedroom when they heard noises in another room. While the homeowner was retrieving a handgun, an unknown man entered the room, police said.

The resident fired at the suspect, and he fled eastbound on Wheeler Ave.

Police believe the suspect was injured during the incident.

The suspect was described as a black man in his early 20s around 5 feet 6 inches tall. He weighs around 135 pounds and was last seen wearing gray sweatpants without a shirt.
