Anonymous donor gives $100M to Baylor philanthropic program

The donation is the largest gift in university history.

WACO, Texas — An anonymous donor gave a $100 million to Baylor's Give Light campaign, the university announced Saturday.

The donation was the largest in university history.

University officials said the money will help Baylor move forward as a research university by "strategically investing in new areas of teaching, research and service."

A "significant portion" of the donation will create a matching fund to launch the Baylor Academic Challenge, according to the university.

“This is a truly momentous day in the 174-year history of Baylor University," Baylor president Dr. Linda Livingstone said. "We are deeply grateful to these members of the Baylor family whose spirit of generosity and undying love for Baylor and its Christian mission will galvanize support from others who will come alongside and invest in Baylor.”

Give Light is a philanthropic campaign with a $1.1 billion goal. The campaign was launched in November 2018 and has raised $692 million to date, university officials said.
