April Outstanding Educator: Bethany Harris

Parents described Miss Harris as "exactly what you want in a teacher for your child."

Channel Six News is proud to recognize Bethany Harris as April's Outstanding Educator.

Miss Harris is a brand new educator, who graduated from Texas A&M in May 2016, and now teaches third grade at Haynes Elementary School in Killeen.

Donna Myrdahl, who nominated her, described Miss Harris as "exactly what you want in a teacher for your child." She said Miss Harris always arrives at school early and stays late, despite commuting from Georgetown daily.

"It's great having your son actually interested in school and having him care for the teacher and the teacher care for him," Myrdahl's husband Ben said.

Principal Angie Donovan said she first met Miss Harris at a job fair and instantly knew she would be an asset to KISD.

"She honestly loves her children to death and is always looking for ways to make her children the most successful they can be," Donovan said.

Watch the surprise!

Harris customizes her lessons to each individual students' needs and actively keeps parents informed about their children's progress.

"I became a teacher because when I was in school, I had a hard time with school," Harris said. "I didn't have a lot of support from my teachers. And so, I wanted to be able to give opportunities to my kids and be able to support them in ways I didn't receive as a student."
