Channel 6 surprises Waco ISD's Carolyn Green with our Outstanding Educator Award

'She's one of the best that we have in this state.'

WACO — Channel 6 is proud to recognize Carolyn Green as our March 2018 Outstanding Educator.

Mrs. Green is a Supplemental Instruction Teacher, who has worked at West Avenue Elementary since 2004. She interacts with students of all grade levels on the campus, which serves children in kindergarten through fifth grade. Green teaches everything from reading to science.

According to school administrators, Mrs. Green is a leader among her peers -- helping other teachers develop education strategies that cater to each student's learning profile. She helps facilitate hands on learning projects, coding lessons, and activities that help prepare her students for STEM careers.

Green is a role model among both students and teachers, according to Principal Joseph Alexander.

“She’s really quiet in nature," Alexander said. "But, when she’s in the classroom, she’s a dynamo. And, she’s one of the best that we have in this state.”

Her colleagues said her work ethic was second to none. In fact, Mrs. Green hopes to take on more responsibilities one day and become a school administrator.

When asked about her secret to success with her students, Green said: “High expectations. I let them know that I expect them to do their best each and every day, and I won’t accept anything less.”
