ATLANTA — Hair salons and spas are on the list of businesses that can open on Friday, but Jessica Kane said her Decatur spa, Fabu, will remain closed.
"Actually I was in shock, it was actually pretty emotional for me because I wasn't kind of ready to get outside of this bubble we've been in," said Kane.
As a spa, she said there's not a safe way to serve her clients.
"We are spending up to 70 minutes working on a client, working right over them," she said.
But Human Canvas in Buckhead will be open. Owner Andrea Vanderham said while cutting hair, she can work with a mask. She said the decision wasn't easy.
"I feel like I'm forced to open even though I'm nervous about my own health and the health of my family," said Vanderham.
Since her clients are men, she said there's an issue with waiting too long between haircuts. In fact, she said within 60 seconds of Kemp's announcement, her schedule started to fill up.
"So I will be able to see roughly 23 clients in 2 days," Vanderham said.
We also talked to Brandy Sims at Replenish salon who said there are too many unanswered questions right now for her to open.
"Some of the questions are what is the best way to protect yourself to protect the surfaces around you," said Sims.
Both Kane and Sims said they will revisit the issue sometime after April 30 when the statewide shelter in place is supposed to end.
"Hopefully if that's not in a few weeks I'm praying it's in June", said Sims.
Meanwhile, Vanderham will be getting back to work.
"We'll do everything to keep everyone safe but I do feel like this is rushed", said Vanderham.
Bowling alleys were also on the list of businesses able to open on Friday. We talked to the owners of 3 bowling alleys in Atlanta (The Painted Pin, The Painted Duck and Midtown Bowl), and they all said it feels too soon. So until they can keep their staff and customers safe, they will keep their doors closed.
