Manhunt over: John Williams captured in Norridgewock

Law enforcement used the handcuffs of fallen Deputy Cpl. Gene Cole to arrest Williams, the prime suspect in the shooting and killing of Cpl. Cole early Wednesday morning, police announced Saturday.

***UPDATE*** — Police say the manhunt for Williams is over. They say the public is safe.

Police said a team of federal, state and local law enforcement made contact with Williams at 12:43 a.m. off of Route 139 in Norridgewock.

He is in custody, they said.

"It has come to a conclusion, we have arrested John Williams," Sheriff Dale Lancaster said.

Police have planned another briefing for 5 p.m.

NORRIDGEWOCK (NEWS CENTER Maine) — John Williams, 29, is a fugitive, considered armed and dangerous. He is wanted in connection with the shooting death of Somerset County Sheriff's Deputy, Corporal Eugene Cole. Williams is described as 5’ 6” and 120 Ibs with blue eyes, brown hair and a full beard. He has tattoos on his chest, lower abdomen, and both arms.

Police say if you see Williams do not approach him and call 911.
