ROGERS, Texas — Two people were killed and a woman was taken to the hospital after a car crash Sunday night just east of Rogers Cemetery Road on Highway 190, according to a Bell County Justice of the Peace.

A witness told police one car was trying to pass another car, but it crashed head on into a car driving in the opposite direction.

Rogers woman Misty Byram, 39, died at the scene. She was the only person in her car when the crash happened. Copperas Cove man Jerome Smith, 57, died at Baylor Scott and White just after midnight from his injuries.

A woman was in the car with Smith, and she is still at the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Rogers Volunteer Fire Department, Rogers Police and the Texas Department of Public Safety were at the scene a few minutes after the crash happened at 9:48 p.m.

No drugs or alcohol were found at the scene, the justice of the peace said.

An autopsy was not requested, but both Smith and Byram died from blunt force trauma, the justice of the peace said.
