WOODWAY, Texas — Two officers were injured Wednesday while serving a warrant at a Woodway home.

Police said that around 9 a.m. two officers were trying to locate Andrew Kaul, 47, at a home in the 700 block of Forest Oaks. Kaul, who had two outstanding warrants out of Woodway and Travis County for bond forfeiture and failure to appear, ran when he saw the officers, police said. Kaul “violently resisted the officers” and fought as they tried to handcuff him, police said.

One officer was kicked in the head and seriously injured, according to police. The other officer suffered minor injuries to his face.

The officer with the head injury was taken to Hillcrest Hospital where he underwent testing and will remain for observation, police said.

Kaul was taken to McLennan County Jail and was charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer, assault on a peace officer, evading arrest causing serious bodily injury, and resisting arrest in addition to the initial warrants.

It is unclear when the injured officer will be released from the hospital.
