As schools prepare to break for the summer vacation, what will not take a break is their student food program.
Schools have programs in place to provide children in need with one meal a day and this will not change once classes are out. Last summer, Copperas Cove ISD gave out 20,000 meals to kids during the break.
Many schools will not only be providing free meals at the schools but also at locations around the cities.
School districts will partner with other organizations, such as church groups and community centers, to make the meals more accessible and will also put on extra-curricular activities for kids.
"We are going to have some activities for kids," Copperas Cove ISD Director of Child Nutrition Melissa Bryan said. "We are going to have Elsie the Cow out, we are also working with some football players to come in and do some promos with the kids. So, we are trying to incorporate some activities with the summer feeding program to hopefully draw some more kids and parents out."
ISD's want to stress that any child under the age of 18 -- no matter where they live or come from --are welcome to have a meal at one of the food program locations free of charge.
Below are locations for summer food programs at Copperas Cove, Belton and Cameron. Other ISD's locations and times are still be finalized, so make sure you check in with your school or on your local ISD website.
