Apartment fire kills one in Killeen

A person died Tuesday morning at Seton Hospital after being found unresponsive at their apartment 3300 block of Rancier Avenue.

Killeen Fire department were dispatched to the scene at 5:13 a.m. to the report of a fire at the apartment complex. The initial dispatch consisted of two ladder trucks, two fire engines, one rescue truck, two command vehicles and one ambulance. A total of 25 fire personnel responded, according to a press release.

When fire crews arrived, they found smoke showing from a single, second-story apartment unit. Firefighters found an unresponsive person inside the apartment.

After moving the victim outside, Killeen EMS transported the victim to Seton Hospital. The fire crews extinguished a fire that appeared to have started in the kitchen are, according to the release.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Killeen Fire Marshal’s Office.

The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
