Attorneys: RB Cedric Benson regrets weekend arrest

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Attorneys for running back Cedric Benson accuse the man he allegedly assaulted in Texas of threatening him with extortion, a claim the victim's lawyer denies.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Attorneys for running back Cedric Benson accuse the man he allegedly assaulted in Texas of threatening him with extortion, a claim the victim's lawyer denies.

Benson, a Cincinnati Bengals player released from jail Sunday, said Wednesday that he regrets last weekend's events. Benson was arrested in downtown Austin on a misdemeanor assault with injury charge following an altercation with Clavens Charles, his former male roommate.

Benson's attorneys Sam Bassett and William David Cornwell Sr. said in a statement that Charles' lawyer, Thomas Crosley, threatened to go to the media if Benson did not agree to a settlement meeting. But Crosley told The Associated Press late Wednesday that was an outrageous accusation and that neither he nor his client have demanded money from Benson.
