Baylor's Cox suffered MCL sprain and bone bruise, won't need surgery

The All-American was injured in the third quarter of the National Championship game.

WACO, Texas — Baylor All-American forward Lauren Cox will not need surgery after medical staff evaluated the injury she suffered during Sunday's National Championship game, Baylor Athletics said in a press release.

An MRI showed that Cox has an MCL sprain with bone bruising, the release said. There is no time table for her return.

Cox went down in the third quarter when Baylor was winning 62-50. She was an integral part of the team's success all season, earning third-team All-American honors from the AP and the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year award.
