Bell County Organized Crime Unit seizes about 30 pounds of marijuana in drug arrest

The unit arrested two people and seized about $90,000 worth of drugs in a bust, officials say.

BELL COUNTY, Texas — Two people were arrested as part of an investigation into the distribution of high-grade marijuana in Bell County, and about 30 pounds of marijuana was confiscated along with guns and other controlled substances, the Bell County Organized Crime Unit said in a press release. 

About $90,000 worth of drugs have been taken so far in this investigation, according to the release. 

Kendrick Deon Parker, 29, and Laqunda Ami Meshea McCovery, 23,  were arrested Wednesday on charges of engaging in organized criminal activity and possession of more than 5 pounds of marijuana, the release said.

According to the release, additional charges may be filed based on the Texas Department of Public Safety's lab analysis of the other substances. 

An assault rifle, handgun and about $2,000 cash were also taken by police, the release said.

Both suspects are being held at the Bell County Jail on a $150,000 bond. 

The Killeen Police Department helped the Bell County Organized Crime Unit in this arrest.
