DPS identifies Killeen woman killed on highway Thursday

DPS confirms there was a fatal crash in Bell County.

One woman died after walking in front of a vehicle in Bell County around 9 p.m. Thursday, according to authorities.

Sgt. John Roberts with the Texas Department of Public Safety said the crash happened on eastbound IH-14 (Highway 190) near Clear Creek Road between Killeen and Copperas Cove.

A 2004 Kia Optima was driving east when a Killeen woman walked into the roadway in front of the car, Sgt. Roberts said. The 18-year-old driver, also of Killeen, was not hurt. But, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim was identified Friday as 33-year-old Tiffany Nicole Waff.

"DPS would like to remind pedestrians to avoid attempts to cross controlled access highways," Sgt. Roberts said in an email. "Pedestrians should use overpasses and crosswalks when attempting to cross a roadway."

Eastbound traffic was backed up for a while as first responders cleared the scene.
