Exit 301 in Temple temporarily reopens Thursday

Traffic construction is shifting in Temple on Thursday, allowing Exit 301 to temporarily reopen, the Texas Department of Transportation said.

TEMPLE, Texas — The Texas Department of Transportation announced in a press release that exit 301 for Central and Adams avenues will reopen temporarily this Thursday.

TxDOT said the I-35 contractor will shift the northbound lane into a new alignment from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

The contractor will close the northbound frontage bridge, over the railroad north of Avenue H during that timeframe, TxDOT said.

The closure of the bridge will let the contractor finish construction on the northbound frontage from the bridge to Central Avenue, along with building the new, permanent exit 301, TxDOT said.

Drivers entering I-35 north from the northbound frontage will need to make a U-turn at the railroad tracks to the southbound frontage. Then, take a U-turn at Loop 363 and use the new entrance ramp just south of 57th Street.

Travelers on Temple's eastside can access I-35 north from 31st Street to Adams Avenue to the northbound frontage road, TxDOT said.

One lane of I-35 south will close at Central and Adams avenues for this road work, TxDOT said.

TxDOT said drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes during this time and obey all warning and detour signs.
