Chilton ISD graduating senior ejected from pickup truck in fatal crash

A Truck was traveling south on Robinson Dr in Waco when it drifted off of the road and struck a light pole Wednesday shortly after 7:30 a.m.

WACO, Texas —

A Truck was traveling south on Robinson Dr in Waco when it drifted off of the road and struck a light pole at the intersection of Robinson Dr and Primrose Wednesday shortly after 7:30 a.m., according to the Waco Police Department.

As a result of the crash the passenger, 18-year-old Emilio Rueda, was ejected from the 2003 GMC Sierra pickup truck and pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver of the truck was taken to the hospital where he received medical treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation at this time, According to the Waco PD.

Rueda was a graduating senior at Chilton Independent School District. The district released a statement in memory of Rueda Wednesday afternoon.

"It is with a tremendously heavy heart that we inform you of the tragic passing of Emilio Rueda, a class of 2020 graduating senior from Chilton High School.  We encourage the Chilton community to surround the family with thoughts of love and prayers of comfort during this time of bereavement.  Additionally, we ask that community members, parents, and teachers extend support to the graduating class of 2020 as they navigate this difficult time."

A team of counselors and pastors will be available on campus Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to help the community deal with this tragedy.

The release went onto say, "We will do all that we can to help our students, staff, and community through this experience.  Though our campus will be open for our students and staff on a come and go basis, we would like to encourage all attendees to wear a personal mask or one that will be provided by the Chilton ISD."

The Chilton ISD will receive donations in his memory and will make a contribution to the Rueda family.
