Father of missing Temple woman speaks: "refrain from speculation"

Jonathan Scott said that all he and his wife know is that his daughter and Michael Swearingin are missing. He also said his family is relying primarily on law enforcement for information and help.

TEMPLE, Texas — The Temple Police Department said it is looking for Michael Swearingin, 32, and former UMHB student Jenna Scott, 28, after the two went missing Friday.

Swearingin and Scott were last heard from on Jan. 4 around 3 a.m., investigators said.

Jenna Scott's father, Jonathan Scott, spoke to KCEN Channel 6 News about his daughter's disappearance.

"First and foremost, we appreciate everything that everyone is doing," Scott said.

Swearingin and Jenna Scott have been friends for several years after they met through mutual friends, Jonathan Scott said.

Swearingin's friend Michael visited the Scott household on Friday to ask if the family had seen the two. Jonathan Scott said that's when they realized his daughter and her friend were missing.

The family then decided to file a missing person report for his daughter. Swearingin's mother filed as well.

As the Temple Police Department investigates, Scott said the families are using posters to get the word out, while others are searching areas of interest.

"The worst outcome is they aren't with us anymore, or they could've been kidnaped," Scott said. "At this point, anything that we would think would be speculation. We just know they're missing."

Scott said his emotions have been on a roller coaster ride the past couple of days.

He asked that people refrain from any speculation on social media and to contact the Temple Police Department with any new information at 254-298-5500.
