Heavy rain flooding streets in Waco, police and fire departments say be careful when driving

Multiple streets in Waco are flooded because of the rain, and police said some people are trapped in cars.

WACO, Texas — The Waco Police Department said on Twitter at 5:53 p.m. that most of the street level flooding has died down and it is safer to travel now. However, the department said to drive very carefully if you do go out. 

Heavy rain has flooded many streets in Waco, and the Waco Police and Waco Fire departments said it was dangerous to drive on the roads around 5 p.m.

Police said multiple people were trapped in cars. The fire department said on Twitter multiple cars were stranded in high water. 

"Okay, let me make this clear," Waco police Sgt. Patrick Swanton said. "You are putting yourself in harm's way if you attempt to navigate a vehicle at this time."
