Killeen residents team up to feed and mentor youth

Restaurant owner Bobby B and rapper Levallois Hamilton teamed up Friday to put together an event help feed and mentor the youth in Killeen.

Restaurant owner Bobby B and rapper Levallois Hamilton teamed up Friday to put together an event help feed and mentor the youth in Killeen.

Hamilton's song "Free My City" has encouraged people in Killeen to stop the violence and build a positive environment in the area.

The rapper and restaurant owner said they hope Friday's event will build on the positive momentum.

On any given day, Bobby B's Soul Food Kitchen experiences heavy foot traffic. The soulful food is a local hit, and thanks to some community leaders, the crowd Friday walked away with more than just a meal.

Bobby B and Hamilton fed the youth at Bobby B's Soul Food Kitchen free of charge, took time out of their day to play games with the kids, and give them valuable life advice. It's all apart of the duo's vision of saving the city.

"I hope they get to meet some new people," Hamilton said. "People that they can possibly end up connecting with that can be possible mentors, role models... or just good for some of the parents to know that there are people out here in the area that care about their kids. So, if we see them doing something wrong we can look out for them."

Bobby B said he hopes kids who showed up to Friday's event walk away feeling supported.

"In my food is love and I just want to let them know that I love them," Bobby B said. "I remember when I was young, sometimes there was a bill that wasn't getting paid, but we always had food on the table. So, this is my way of showing them love by giving them some food."

The kids seemed to have a wonderful time, too.

Killeen resident Amir Washington said Bobby B is his best friend and he makes great food.

When the day was all said and done, everyone walked away full... on much more than just the barbeque.

Bobby B's Soul Food Kitchen, located at 3601 Zephyr Road, is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
