LAMPASAS, Texas — The Lampasas Police department said it arrested two men for multiple felony charges involving identity theft and possessing a credit card skimmer. The men had warrants for arrests on similar charges from two other agencies, police said.

On Thursday at 12:30 a.m., an officer stopped a 2000 Buick four door sedan in the 500 block of South Key Avenue, according to Patrol Lieutenant Chuck Montgomery.

25-year-old Jose Gerardo Chaples-Bruzon of Las Vegas was the driver arrested. A driver's license check showed active warrants from both the Williamson County Texas Sheriff's Department and the Cedar Park Texas Police for credit card abuse, Montgomery said.

28-year-old Daniel Alberto Perez-Rodriguez of Austin was the passenger arrested, and he possessed somebody else's driver's license, according to Montgomery.

During the search, Lampasas police said it found other peoples' credit and debit cards, identifying information, a driver's license and an apparent credit card skimmer.

Investigators are reaching out to potential victims to get their IDs and cards back, Montgomery said. Montgomery said they're helping other police departments who might have active cases involving credit card skimmers as well.

Here are the crimes each man was charged with:

Chaples-Bruzon

  • Credit/debit card abuse - warrants from Williamson County Texas Sheriff's Department and the Cedar Park Texas Police - State jail felony
  • Fraudulent use/possession of identifying information - State jail felony
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia - Class C misdemeanor

Perez-Rodriguez

  • Fraudulent use/possession of identifying information - State jail felony

Lampasas police is holding the car and may seize it, since it's suspected it was used to commit these felonies, Montgomery said.
