MCLENNAN COUNTY, Texas — Democrat Patricia Chisolm-Miller beat out Republican Donis DL Wilson for McLennan County’s Precinct 2 Commissioner seat. With 88 of 91 precincts reporting their votes, Miller received 57 percent, winning her the seat.

These candidates were campaigning down to the wire. KCEN Channel 6 reporter Jasmin Caldwell covered them going door-to-door the day before Election Day.

Since Miller won, she is the first woman elected to the McLennan County Commissioners Court.

Miller said she's the right person for the job because she worked under current commissioner Lester Gibson for 22 years. She also said she'd push for more affordable policies for working families in the county if elected.

Wilson was a state trooper for the Department of Public Safety until he retired. His goals for the county include beautifying East Waco and fixing the roads in rural areas.

Both candidates said they feel optimistic about the outcome come Tuesday night.

"We know this is going to be a tight race, and we knew that from the beginning," Wilson said. "I'm here, holding my own signs, I'm going to do the job. I'm going to be at all the meetings."

"I'm very excited that Election Day has finally come and I'm really excited about the turnout today and I am really looking forward to the results," Miller said.

The winner will replace Gibson, who held the spot for more than 28 years. The position will be vacated on Dec. 31.
