MEXIA, Texas — A 15-year-old Mexia male died at the scene of a single-vehicle accident Wednesday evening.

Two other occupants were uninjured and released from the scene to their parents. The identities of the vehicle occupants are not being released at this time, pending further inquiries.

Mexia Fire and Emergency Medical Service personnel were dispatched to Limestone County Road 256, outside Mexia city limits, just before 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The responders arrived on the scene of a single-vehicle accident and determined that the SUV left the roadway and crashed. The 15-year-old occupant was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The scene was cleared around 9:50 p.m.

Mexia High School Principal Robert White released a statement regarding the fatal accident.

"We are deeply saddened to inform you that one of our students passes away from a car accident. We extend our sincere and heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. Normally, we would have counselors on campus immediately to console and support our students and staff following such news. During this time of quarantine in light of the devastating COVID-19, this is not possible. Mexia ISD will provide this counseling care virtually in light of this situation."

Online conference calls will be available Thursday from 5-6 p.m. and Friday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

White said the conference calls are not therapy sessions, but an opportunity to "gather and express care and concern with one another." Access will be shared with students through Google Classroom.

White provided the names and contact information for district counselors should parents or their children need additional support. Staff will be available from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, April 20 through Friday, April 24. The counselors include:

  • Wendi Dunn, 254-723-7476
  • Gayle Henson, 903-875-9665
  • Stephana High-Mitchell, 254-366-1469
  • Sabrina Jacobs, 903-390-4594
