MRI center opens its doors in Waco

Ideal MRI opened its doors for the first time Tuesday morning with the Waco Chamber of Commerce. It's an outpatient medical imaging facility and the first in central Texas to offer fixed prices.

WACO, Texas — A new startup imaging center in Waco aims to lower costs and be more accessible to patients.

Ideal MRI opened its doors for the first time Tuesday morning with the Waco Chamber of Commerce. It's an outpatient medical imaging facility and the first in central Texas to offer fixed prices.

According to Robert Maxey, one of the owners at Ideal MRI and a radiologist, MRI's can typically cost more than $1,000. Maxey said as a provider and consumer of health care he knows how expensive it can be, so they figured out a way to lower their cost.

"What we've done is lowered the overhead so that we can offer high quality MRI's at a convenient location, and at a reasonable price," Maxey said.

All scans at Ideal MRI cost $497 or less.

MRI's can be used to scan any part of the body for illnesses, injuries, and a wide range of medical issues.

Maxey said there's a need for this type of health care in central Texas and when choosing a location, Waco was the first choice.

"Waco is special to me, so I was happy to try to bring this to the community and help some patients out," Maxey said.

Patients can schedule appointments online, over the phone, or you can walk in and they will text you when the machine is available.

Ideal MRI is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Saturday's from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
