WACO, Texas — Starting 7 p.m. Tuesday, the northbound lanes of I-35 will be shifted into temporary lanes between 4th St. and 18th St., according to the Texas Department of Transportation.
This will be the first phase of construction while crews install new box culverts to redirect Waco Creek's movement under the highway. It's expected to last about two months.
Once traffic is shifted, north and southbound traffic in the area will be separated by a concrete barrier and limited to two lanes each.
Exits in the area will not be affected during the switch or in the new configuration.
Once the first phase is finished, traffic will switch to the northbound lanes from 18th St. to 4th St. while crews remove and rebuild the southbound lanes.
The second phase is expected to last about one year.
TxDOT officials said delays are expected during all phases of work. Real-time traffic maps and lane closure notices are available online.
